Cell Phone Camera Shots of Matt Hughes Skatepark
A few cell phone camera shots of Matt Hughes Skatepark Myrtle Beach South Carolina. The park opened in 1998 and was named after Matthew Reed Hughes, a local skateboarder that died following a skating accident near his home.
The skateboard bench is a tribute to Derrick Rosado, who moved to Myrtle Beach in 1999. Derrick skated the park regularly and was well known and liked due to his skateboarding skills and friendliness. Derrick graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 2006. Sadly, in 2009, while visiting family in New Jersey, Derrick was killed when the car he was riding in was struck by a drunk driver. In October 2010, the driver plead guilty to death by auto charges and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Derrick kept many of his old skateboards, and in 2012, Aaron Frobase (from Pepper Geddings Recreation Center), Derrick's family, and Derrick's friends dedicated the above skateboard bench to Derrick.
The park is old school with 4 foot quarters, big bank, nice rail, a stack box and more. Its owned by the city, free, and open to the public.
