Greyhound Racing Almost Thing of the Past in U.S.

Greyhounds by Carey Spencer

Years ago I went to my only greyhound race to photograph dog racing.  One of my photos of beautiful 45 mph “couch potatoes.”

Greyhound racing is what many believe a cruel and inhumane sport.  After decades long reports alleging drugging, injuries, confinement, and the killing of dogs too old to race, greyhound racing has about seen its last days in the US.

This month, it’s been a year since the sport’s biggest state, Florida, closed its last tracks.  Currently, only three states still have racing (Arkansas, Iowa, and West Virginia).  Arkansas and Iowa’s tracks are scheduled to close by the end of 2022.

To adopt one of these beautiful dogs go to GREY2K USA (the biggest advocate organization against greyhound racing) https://www.grey2kusa.org/action/adopt.php or the National Greyhound Association  https://www.ngagreyhounds.com/ADOPT.
