Valley of Fire - The New Crossing The Old - Travel Photography

Valley of Fire - The New Crossing the Old by Carey Spencer Best Digital Shots

The Valley of Fire, located about 50 miles from Las Vegas and six miles from Lake Mead, is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park as well as a National Natural Landmark. Ancient trees, sandstone rock formations more than a hundred million years old, other rock formations, 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs, petrified wood, and more highlight this beautiful location occupied by hunter gatherers between 300 BC and 1150 AD.  The drive from Vegas is well worth the trip and breathtaking.  Plan on spending a complete day at the park.  As shown in some of my pictures above from a recent visit, however, don’t expect to totally escape the present as the new crosses the old.
